I’ve mentioned my love of coffee a few times in these newsletters over the years and so you must imagine my surprised when I ordered a “regular coffee” for the first time back in Wellington and I was met with the response “What kind?”
They don’t do drip coffee much here and when they do, they shouldn’t. So, it’s mostly espresso drinks down here; here’s a helpful guide to the five main kinds of coffees I’ve found whilst living in Beautiful Aotearoa, New Zealand.
A Flat White.
This is the coffee I get every time because it was fantastic the first time I had it and is good every time and I’m afraid of change. It tastes like a little, but it lighter, and gives you a nice humming noise in your ears.A Long Black
Presumably this is the opposite of a flat white. From my understanding it’s like an Americano on steroids. I’ll never have one most likely because I’m a baby that needs cream in their coffee. Waaa waaa!An Americano
A crappy Long Black.A Latte
You know this one! You’re an American! We have Starbucks! Starbucks has lattes! This’ll be great! WHY IS IT SO SMALL? The lattes here are made the way they’re supposed to be, which is to say, good.Cappuccino
See joke about lattes
