A comprehensive guide to podcasting for you and your loved ones
Podcasting is basically talk radio with a niche subject and terrible audio quality.
Podcasting is basically talk radio with a niche subject and terrible audio quality. Podcasts can cover many things: media criticism, medical history, true crime, and reviews of crimes committed in the medical field and their historical impact. Other types of podcasts are comedy - this can be anything from improv to recordings of improv shows. Pop culture review shows ranging from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the Marvel Television Universe are also quite popular.
If you’re considering starting a podcast, please seek out therapy, (Today’s column is brought to you by Better Help) But, in lieu of doing that, here’s a quick questionnaire to see if you’re ready to start your own podcast.
Do you own a computer?
Do you have opinions about stuff?
Are you willing to never edit out a single word or snuffle out of the podcast?
If you answered yes to all three questions, it turns out you already have a podcast, congratulations.
If you don’t have these things but would like them, here are some ways to get started with your very own podcast!
Find good subject matter: The best subject matter is you and your friends rambling on about something they like. Whether or not that has anything to do with the theme of your podcast is up to you. The best podcasts focus on one subject then go on a tangent for an hour and a half. Remember to drink too much coffee, so as to lose focus as quickly as possible.
Get good recording equipment: Personally, I use an old Razor cell phone’s record function. This allows me to only record my end of the conversation and then sync it up with my co-hosts’ audio which they record by phonograph and send to me by mail.
Edit your podcast: As we all know the best media is raw and unfiltered with that being said, do not edit your podcast in any way shape, or form.
Bother your friends about it: Never stop talking about your podcast, this is the only way to ensure that your friends will continue to like you.
Forget you have a podcast a month in: The most important part of having a podcast is forgetting that it exists, abandoning it for months on end but still bringing it up at parties, even if it doesn’t make sense in the context of the conversation.
Well, that’s it, that’s the best advice I can give you regarding starting a successful podcast.
Stay safe and have fun!
