Bottoms
I watched Bottoms on the way to New Zealand. It was the middle of the night and I was facing down the barrel of humanity’s hubris, by which I mean I was on a plane.
The movie itself? Fun! Good even!
The movie centers around two losers who are in love with the popular girls so they lie about having gone to Juvenal Detention and begin to teach a “self defense” class aka a fight club.
It’s a fun high school romp in the vain of other classic nerdy person gets the girl films. It stars Ayo Edebiri and Rachel Sennott both of whom are incredibly funny in the picture. The writing is strong and the last action set piece is absolutely bananas.
A special commendation should be given to Ruby Cruz as they stand out and are the emotional core of what is a desperately unhinged movie.
Oh! And this movie has lesbians which obviously rules.
I don’t really have much to say about this film other than it’s very fun and good! The jokes all mostly work, it’s clear Rachel and Ayo like each other and have great chemistry, it’s fun to watch highs coolers be dumb, and it made me want to start a fight club. (Open mic)
See it if it seems like you’d like it!
GIRL POWER
The runtime is a perfect 91 minutes
