As I’m typing this review up, I can’t help but be frustrated by the fact that I can spell Furiosa correctly on the first go but have to use the auto-correct feature every time I was to “appreciate” something.
Anyhow, this movie is sick.
If you’re not a fan of Mad Max and his many works, don’t see this movie.
Basically, what happens is there’s this gal and she’s in one of the few remaining paradises after a nuclear apocalypse (I misspelt that one so bad the machine didn’t know what the hell I was trying to say) sweeps across Australia. She quickly gets stolen away, her mother in fast pursuit, a bad but goofy guy end up capturing her and her mother to try to find the paradise from which they came, but ends up killing the mom and thus sets the titular Furiosa on a quest for revenge.
This movie? Rips. Stem to Stern an aboslute bloody delight. Faced paced and full of action, it’s heaps of fun for some of the family.
The level of chaos and anarchy in these films always begs the question: Is Australia just like that anyhow? We may never know the answer.
Chris Hemsworth is giving a performance that can only be described by captain Jack Sparrow by way of Heath Ledger’s Joker - truly a goofy ass type of performance that we simply do not see enough of lately. He has curly mustaches and a fake nose and is out in the Australian heat having a good time!
Anya Taylor-Joy is fantastic once she shows up in the film, however most of the part of Furiosa is played by Alyla Browne who is phenomenal.
The movies themes on how revenge isn’t fulfilling and only break the spirit and mind of those who pursue it is powerful and clear. The only noble way forward is to accept life’s difficulties and try to transmute them into something that is productive for oneself and society as a whole.
The Runtime is 148 minutes.
